"Cattle, not pets" is a way to describe how we think about software infrastructure in a cloud-first world. We once thought of our servers as pets - we gave them names, we treated them as individuals. In the cloud, servers are provisioned dynamically as needed, and we think of them more like cattle. Octopus is the cattle rancher, here to tame these beasts!
